FAQ

Does the mobile I’m messaging have to be in the UK?
No, you can message any UK mobile wherever they are in the world. The cost of doing this will always be 1 credit. You can also message an overseas mobile number. Depending on the country where the mobile is located, the cost will be between 1 and 2 credits. Please be aware of the time difference when sending a text to an overseas mobile user!
Can I use mailText to receive and reply to emails on my mobile?
Yes, in many cases your email provider, for instance Gmail, will allow you to forward a copy of your emails to your mobile’s mailText address – e.g. 07890123456.code@mailtext.com. In this way you can instantly receive a text when an email arrives without the need for a smartphone. You can also reply using text back to the email sender, although we recommend doing a quick test to check this out beforehand.
How do my messages get passed to the mobile network?
We have a direct interconnect with the UK GSM networks so that any messages you send are routed without delay to the appropriate mobile network. We don’t use a connection point outside the UK to route messages to UK mobiles as these routes, although commonly used, are considered low priority by the UK GSM networks and therefore experience delays from time to time.
Do you ever use mobile numbers I message or my email address to send spam, or for other marketing purposes?
Categorically no. We would never use a mobile number you message or your email address for marketing purposes in order to subsidise the cost of the service. These details are only used for the routing of messages to and from mobiles.
How do I know when I need to buy more message credits?
You can choose to have a notification sent to any email address and/or mobile number when your credits have fallen below a threshold. You can set up one or more thresholds in the Admin page of your control panel.
What sort of delivery times should I expect?
We deliver the vast majority of messages within 10 to 20 seconds and we have designed our infrastructure with this aim in mind. However, it would be wrong of us to pretend this is achievable 100% of the time as it does rely on the mobile being in coverage and there being no other delays outside our control.
Can I see details of all the messages I am sending?
Yes, you can view and download in your control panel an up to the second log of all the messages you are sending. You can also do this for any period historically. We include a delivery report for each message, received from the mobile network, which indicates whether a message has been delivered to a mobile.
Can I be invoiced instead of having to purchase messages in advance?
Yes, this is an option depending on the number of messages you are purchasing and may be subject to a credit check. Please contact us for more details.
Why is there a ‘code’ in the email address I use to message the mobile?
When you register with us, you will receive your own, unique code to use in all your mobile email addresses. This code is important as it identifies you as a valid user and helps to minimise the risk of unauthorised users accessing your message credits. You can change this code to one of your choice at any time. Please contact us for more details.
Can I schedule messages to be sent on a future date?
Yes, the Schedule page of your control panel allows you to set up scheduled sends using a simple calendar.
Can I choose what size of text message I send?
Yes, the default text message size is limited to 160 characters, however you can select up to 10 messages, if required, to send each email. Note, for example, if you send an email that is 200 characters long and you have selected to send up to 2 messages per email, this will use 2 of your message credits.
Can I choose what information from my email is included in the text message?
Yes, via the control panel you can configure to send just the body of the email (i.e. the message), the ‘From’ address or the ‘Subject’, or any combination of these.
Do you support other types of interface other than email for sending messages?
